Book Summary: This book centres around the conversations that we all have with ourselves and how these conversations imprint onto our subconscious minds.

A key point discussed in the book is around our programming, and how our quality of programming directly affects the quality of our lives. Helmstetter discusses that our programming is the driving force behind our whole lives – our programming will drive our beliefs, that drive our attitudes, that drives our thoughts, feelings and emotions, which in turn drives our final behaviours. So to obviously change our outcome/end result (behaviours) we need to change our input (programming) – and the best way to do this is via self talk. He describes the different levels of self talk, which essentially range from the lowest quality of self talk to the highest quality. So the first thing we need to do is become aware of our self talk, and keep track of what negative things we say to ourselves.

Helmstetter gives a scenario of the “Two You’s” – Imagine there are Two versions of you – the first runs on old programming, no change, just going through the emotions – what does this version of you look like? Now imagine the second version of you, that is dialed into the self talk – if you project this version into the future, would you notice a difference between the two? Which version will go further?

I think this is a very important book to read, especially for traders who will regularly find themselves in challenging situations, and potentially feel a bit disheartened at times. Now there are people that argue whether “positive thinking” actually helps or not (I personally think it does!) however, I think most would agree that even if you think positive thinking is irrelevant, NEGATIVE Thinking and Self Talk can destroy you.

The book goes into many examples and anecdotes that could be extremely helpful, and that’s why we think it is an important book and thus have included it in our challenge.

We hope you join us in this, and if you do, I know you will greatly benefit from it – Remember in order to progress in life it’s critical that we keep ourselves in a growth mindset.

When you have finished reading this book we would love to hear your thoughts and insights on what you took away, what lessons you learned – please use the comment box below!

Also please share this article with you friends, especially those who you think will benefit from reading a few of the suggested book sand joining in with the challenge.

God bless, and Happy Trading!
